LIKE A DIAMOND IN THE SKY!

No this has nothing to do about the age old Nursery Rhyme, nor is this going to be an article on astronomy. This is about something else, something which resembles a diamond and is found in the sky!
It all started with an "IF"! Like all great things. As the Process Team in Kolkata was celebrating the birthdays of the five August born Leo-s on 20th August, an idea just cropped up. 'IF' only we all could meet on a weekend, a picnic may be, or may be a simple get together! And what followed is this!
The date was almost immediately finalised as 5th September, and our colleague Arin was brave enough to volunteer himself to play the "Host"! His apartment was more or less centrally located, and new, and had some space in the garage to arrange for the get together. The organising committee for the event were also finalised, which consisted of Arin, Ayan, Subrat, Shubhabrata and yours truly. The menu got finalised, the breakfast was planned, the preliminary budget was made and even the logistics were plotted within a week that followed. And the invitation was sent out to all!
But we needed to do something to convert this simple get together into something special! The signature event needed to be something that was not any day to day common place picnic event, like an ‘Antakshari’, or a game of ‘Housie’. Brainstorming led to the idea of having a 'Kite Flying Competition'! Battlegrounds were drawn, and the teams were selected. The interested and available members for the get together were drawn in two separate teams - "Saumya's Shockers" and "Santanu's Swingers"! And we were all looking ahead to have a great Sunday together!
The D-day arrived! The arrangements made were impeccable, and the attendees were all there on time to start the event! The weather gods tried their luck in playing spoilsport for a few moments, but our enthusiasm ultimately got the better of them and we had the first kite soaring into the sky. With in no time, the heat of the battle reached a scorching level. No team allowed the other an inch of the 'sky' without a fight! The air was tense, and the only noise was the frequent shrill cry of 'Bhokatta' as each one kite 'bit the dust'!
After about an hour of stiff battle, the ending bell was sounded as the lunch was ready to be served! The results were out, but it was not important who the winners were on the day, actually all of us were winners, and so was the spirit of the competition!
A sumptuous Bengali lunch was waiting for us, followed by a typical Bengali 'Nirbhejal Adda' (the nearest English translation would be 'an informal conversation among a group of people, often for hours at an end, and usually accompanied by food')! And the afternoon flowed into the dusk, and it was already time bring this to an end!
'Till we meet again' was the mood, and while bringing back a bagful of good memories with us, we definitely wanted to make this is a more frequent event in our calendar. The sun was down by this time, and the evening star was out there shining like a diamond!
